A customer in Bethesda, MD, called because his Radon Mitigation System was noisy and causing disturbances during quiet hours of the night.
We scheduled an inspection visit to assess the problem. During our visit, we determined that the system, installed by another company, was incorrectly installed and did not meet code requirements.
We repaired the system to bring it up to code and installed a new fan, as the old one was failing and improperly installed.

Our task was to lower the radon levels to acceptable levels by installing a Sub-Slab Depressurization System to extract the radon gas from under the house.
It wasn't an easy job as the house was old with thick masonry walls that we had to core through in order to route the extraction pipes outside and vent the radon gas above the roofline.
We also had to core the concrete slab to create a point of extraction. Upon coring the floor, we had to dig an air pocket under the house, which was challenging because the house, built in the 1950s, had clay soil.
In the end, we were able to be achieve a beautifully installed radon mitigation system that is now lowering the levels to below 2.7 pCi/L, and the family is now breathing much safer air in their home.
